The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome local artists Karen Kallins and Veronica Hauresz as guest exhibitors for the month of March at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place.  Karen and Veronica collaborated on a series of photographic artworks they’ve titled “Immiscible”.  The striking images are based on simple elements such as oil, water, and colorful backgrounds.  The combinations are endless, and each photo is unique.

Karen Kallins says she loved taking photos from a very young age, and fell in love with photography as a craft after she learned how to develop photos in a darkroom while in college.  This made her realize how creative photography can be, and that it can be an art in addition to a documentation of life events.

“For this project, I truly enjoyed experimenting with new methods and materials.  I have a passion for making abstract photographs that have strong shapes and/or colors, that are captivating to look at, and that spark the viewer’s imagination,” said Karen.

Karen Kallins’ work has been exhibited in Vermont and frequently throughout Fairfield County, in both group and solo exhibitions.  You can see all of Karen’s Immiscible photographs and her other projects, along with a complete list of exhibits and her resume,  on her website at www.karenkallinsphotography.com

Co-exhibitor Veronica Hauresz was born in Argentina and has lived in different places throughout her life, including Brazil, Belgium, and several states in the U.S.  She has always enjoyed photography: looking at it, taking it, and making works of art with it.  When Veronica’s savings went towards her first camera, she became the photographer for her family and close friends.  She has also volunteered to photograph numerous social events, and always brings back many photo memories from her various trips.  Lately, her interest has been focused on fine art photography.

“Immiscible, a project with just a few simple elements, gave me the space to express myself through color, shapes and creativity.  It was a lot of fun,” said Veronica.

Veronica Hauresz is a member of the Weston Library Photography Club and the Stamford Photography Club.  Her work has been exhibited in California and throughout Connecticut, and has received awards in the U.S. and in Europe.

The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Karen and Veronica and their exhibit on Wednesday evening, March 13, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop at 203-349-5141 or by email to bookshop@westportbooksaleventures.org

Karen and Veronica’s photography will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through March 31, 2024.  All work on display is available for purchase.

The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours:  Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m.
