David J, the influential musician, writer, and founding member of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, will headline the Saturday night lineup of VersoFest 2026 with a special storytellers event at The Westport Library.
The program takes place Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s Trefz Forum, an intimate venue limited to 450 attendees. Tickets are $35.
David J will read selections from his new poetry book, Rhapsody, Threnody & Prayer, accompanied by original pre-recorded music. The reading will be followed by an onstage conversation with author and media theorist Douglas Rushkoff and will conclude with a short acoustic performance.
Signed copies of Rhapsody, Threnody & Prayer will be available for purchase at the event.
VersoFest is The Westport Library’s annual music and media festival, bringing artists, authors and performers to Westport for conversations and performances centered on creativity and culture. This year’s lineup includes a kickoff storytellers event with Susanna Hoffs on March 6, a conversation with Ani DiFranco on March 26, a concert by Wyclef Jean on March 27, and a VersoFest book talk with Gina Gershon on March 28.
David J emerged as a defining voice of the post-punk movement with Bauhaus, whose 1979 single “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” helped shape the gothic rock genre. He later found mainstream success with Love and Rockets, whose hit “So Alive” reached the top three on U.S. charts. His career also includes 11 solo albums, a critically acclaimed memoir, Who Killed Mister Moonlight?, and the collaborative project Night Crickets.
Rushkoff, named by MIT as one of the world’s most influential intellectuals, is the author of more than 20 books and creator of several PBS documentaries examining media, technology, and culture.
