MoCA CT will celebrate National Poetry Month next week with “Art + Sound,” a live collaborative performance featuring regional creators on Thursday, April 9.
The evening highlights the synergy between different artistic media, featuring Norwalk poet Sahmra Sawyer and Bridgeport painter Lauren Clayton. The event, which runs from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., will take place within the museum’s main galleries at 19 Newtown Turnpike.
Sawyer, a prominent spoken word artist, will perform original pieces set to a live jazz score. Simultaneously, Clayton will engage in a live painting session, using the rhythm of the music and the cadence of the poetry to inform a large-scale visual composition.
Local culinary favorite 29 Markle CT will provide food for the evening, offering attendees a taste of their acclaimed soul food menu.
The program is structured as a communal experience, beginning with remarks on the local arts scene, followed by a performance that moves through the exhibition spaces. A scheduled intermission will allow attendees to explore the galleries and interact with the artists before the final act and the completion of the live painting.
Admission is $30 for the general public, with discounted rates of $20 for students and seniors and $15 for members.
