MoCA Westport to Host First Dance Performance with East Coast Contemporary Ballet in collaboration with Alturas Duo and Callisto Quartet
MoCA Westport is thrilled to have our first dance performance on October 14 at 7 PM by the East Coast Contemporary Ballet Company in collaboration with Alturas Duo and the Yale Quartet-in-Residence, Calllisto Quartet.
“Strings and Asymmetry” offers an extraordinary fusion of styles, instruments, and artistic expressions. This program is a heartfelt tribute to the late Chilean folk musician, Victor Jara, commemorating the 50th anniversary of his passing. ECCB co-founder Claire Mazza has choreographed a mesmerizing new piece, set to Javier Farias’ monumental, “El vuelo de tu alma” (a reimagining of Jara’s iconic work). This evocative performance is scored for a string quartet, guitar, and charango, creating a harmonious blend of music and movement. Alejandro Ulloa will unveil a captivating composition, accompanied by Ezio Basso’s music, and Frances Ortiz will present a magnetic duet. Adding to the evening’s richness, the Alturas Duo will premiere “Por el amor se ve” in September 2023, a poignant composition for viola and guitar by the legendary Cuban composer, Leo Brouwer, created as a tribute to Victor Jara and exclusively for this special occasion.
