The Westport Library (20 Jesup Rd, Westport, CT 06880) is partnering with the Westport Center for Senior Activities, BookTrib, and Meryl Moss Media to present the second annual Jackie Robinson Essay Contest, inviting community members ages 60 and older to reflect on the baseball icon’s legacy.
Titled “Dear Jackie Robinson,” this year’s contest asks participants to write a heartfelt letter to Robinson, reflecting on how his courage, dignity, and perseverance have shaped their lives. Organizers strongly encourage intergenerational submissions, ideally pairing one senior age 60 or older with a younger participant between ages 6 and 21. Individual entries and other meaningful duos are also welcome.
Letters must be no more than 800 words and submitted as a PDF or Word document by March 15. Winners will be announced on April 15 in recognition of Jackie Robinson Day.
One grand prize winner and two runners-up will be recognized. Submissions will be judged on emotional impact, authenticity, clarity of writing, connection to Robinson’s legacy, and representation of intergenerational collaboration.
Contest guidelines and submission details are available through The Westport Library.
