The Westport Book Shop is pleased to welcome local artist Darcy Hicks as guest exhibitor for the month of November at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Darcy is exhibiting a collection of tree paintings.
Darcy specializes in metal leaf and oil paint. She is drawn to anything that reflects aggressive light, using gold, silver, and copper leaf to capture the radiance she wants us all to notice in the natural world. “I am interested in how art can begin a relationship with nature, and use reflective materials to invite the viewer to move, resulting in a kind of conversation with the canvas,” said Darcy.
Darcy Hicks is an artist, an educator, and an activist. She is the Director of Education at The Norwalk Art Space, which, among other things, provides free art and music education to low-income students, nurturing their creativity and potential. Darcy is the founder of Doorways to Thinking LLC, through which she provides educational professional development, training teachers in the area of Visual Literacy by incorporating art and sensory experiences into the literacy curriculum.
Darcy is a Westport native. She holds a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Smith College, a Masters of Education from Lesley University, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University.
The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for Darcy and this exhibit on Wednesday evening, November 12, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited; please RSVP to the Book Shop by phoning 203-349-5141 or sending an email to RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org
Darcy Hicks’ artwork will be on exhibit at the Book Shop through November 30, 2025. All artwork on display is available for purchase. 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Arbor Day Foundation, which has planted half a billion trees and is actively responding to the destruction of trees caused by the Los Angeles fires.
The art exhibit is open to the public during the Book Shop’s regular business hours: Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m.
Westport Book Shop, a nonprofit independent used book store, is downtown
Westport’s only source for gently used and antiquarian books, vintage vinyl records, CDs and DVDs. It is located at 23 Jesup Road, right across Jesup Green from The Westport Library.
The Book Shop’s “Drew Friedman Art Place” is a dedicated gallery space within the store that features the work of community artists, on a rotating basis; exhibits change monthly. The exhibits are curated by Miggs Burroughs, a Trustee of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, and a founding member of The Artists Collective of Westport.
