Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of The Goldsmith, a solo play written and performed by Broadway actress Sharone Sayegh, on Monday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.
Based on true stories from Sayegh’s family, The Goldsmith traces the journey of gold jewelry passed down through generations from Iraq to Israel to America, using those heirlooms as a lens to explore identity, faith, belonging and the first-generation experience. The production is the winner of Theatre Aspen’s 2025 Solo Flight Festival.
“The Goldsmith is a beautiful exploration of identity, family, faith, and culture — deeply insightful, wonderfully funny, and brilliantly performed,” said Mark Shanahan, artistic director of Westport Country Playhouse and curator of the Script in Hand series. “I’m thrilled to present it to our Script in Hand audience, and especially excited that it marks our very first solo show in the series.”
The 75-minute performance will be followed by an audience talkback with Sayegh and director Zachary Prince.
Sayegh previously appeared at the Playhouse in The 39 Steps and A Sherlock Carol, as well as in past Script in Hand readings. Her Broadway credits include Beetlejuice, Come From Away, The Band’s Visit and Mamma Mia!. She has also appeared on television in Law & Order, Instinct and Limitless.
Prince directed and co-developed Palatable Gay Robot, which recently completed a North American tour, and has appeared on Broadway in productions including Mother Play and Jersey Boys. Sound composition and music arrangements are by Avi Amon.
Tickets are $35. Click here to purchase tickets.
