Rach’s Hope will host its fifth annual Family Fun Walk at Compo Beach on Sunday, October 4. The one-mile event, titled Walk the Extra Mile 2026, begins at 3:00 p.m. at Ned Dimes Marina.

The annual gathering brings together community members to celebrate, remember, and raise funds for families navigating a child’s critical illness and extended intensive care unit stay. The event honors the memory of Rachel Doran, a 2015 graduate of Staples High School.

Rachel’s grandfather, known as Pa, will participate in the walk as part of his personal commitment to walk 1,000 miles each year in her memory. The afternoon schedule features live acoustic music from Ellis Island Acoustic, along with food and beverages provided by Pizza Pie Wagon and Greens Farms Spirit Shop.

All proceeds from registration and donations support the Fairfield County nonprofit’s efforts to assist families across the country. The organization provides practical assistance, including lodging, transportation, and meal expenses, during pediatric hospital stays.

The family-friendly event is scheduled to take place rain or shine. Attendees of all ages are invited to complete the one-mile course and participate in the community gathering.
