The fifth annual Colorectal Cancer Alliance Bottoms Up Invitational Golf Tournament & Concert will take place September 13-14 in Fairfield. The two-day fundraising event is hosted by Today Show anchor Craig Melvin and sportscaster Lindsay Czarniak. The initiative was established in memory of Melvin’s brother, Lawrence Meadows, who died from colorectal cancer at age 43.

Colorectal cancer ranks as the deadliest cancer for people under age 50 and the second deadliest cancer overall. While the disease is preventable and treatable when detected early, three out of four patients receive late-stage diagnoses. Over its first four years, the Bottoms Up event has raised more than $4.4 million for patient support, education, and research programs.

“We are in a race against a disease that is skewing younger and more aggressive every year,” said Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. He noted that the hosts turned their personal loss into action to help fund research and support programs for affected families.

The event schedule begins at 5:00 p.m. on September 13 with an opening reception and concert at the Fairfield Theater Company. The evening features live musical performances, dinner, an open bar, and opportunities to meet celebrity guests. Previous musical performers at the event have included members of Hootie & The Blowfish, Lisa Lisa, Chris Barron of the Spin Doctors, Branford Marsalis, and Edwin McCain.

The Celebrity Golf Invitational takes place at 8:30 a.m. on September 14 at Shorehaven Golf Club, where participants play alongside celebrity guests. Previous golf participants have included Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, Willie Geist, Maury Povich, Michael Eaves, and Alex English. Concert tickets are available for $275, with proceeds directed to the programs operated by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
