VersoFest 2026 will open with rhythm, movement, and cultural celebration as Cumbe Dance launches the festival weekend with a Traditional Congolese Dance and Drum Workshop on Saturday, March 28, at The Westport Library.
The free, family-friendly workshop begins at 10 a.m. in the library’s Trefz Forum and features master artist Andoche Loubaki performing on the Ngoma drum. The high-energy program introduces participants to the sacred dances and celebratory rhythms of the Congo, blending music, movement, and storytelling in an immersive experience.
The event is designed for all ages and skill levels, offering an interactive introduction to Congolese dance traditions rooted in community and cultural expression. While admission is free, registration is strongly encouraged.
The workshop serves as the kickoff event for VersoFest 2026, The Westport Library’s annual music and media festival. This year’s lineup includes appearances by Susanna Hoffs, Ani DiFranco, Wyclef Jean, Gina Gershon, and David J, among others.
Brooklyn-based Cumbe Dance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to African and Diaspora dance and music education. Through donation-based classes and cultural programs, Cumbe works to make African-rooted movement traditions accessible to people of all economic backgrounds.
