The Westport Country Playhouse will present a specialized masterclass titled “Acting the Song” for high school students on Sunday, June 28. The interactive session is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. inside the Smilow Lounge located on the mezzanine level of the venue. The hands-on workshop is designed to help young performers connect emotionally to musical material and make clear storytelling choices.
Broadway and international performing artist Shereen Ahmed will lead the educational session as the primary teaching artist. Ahmed made her Broadway debut in the Lincoln Center Theater production of My Fair Lady and later headlined the national tour as Eliza Doolittle. Her extensive performance credits include appearances at Carnegie Hall, the White House, and an upcoming role in the Westport Country Playhouse production of Agatha Christie’s The Murder of Roger Ackroyd this July.
The interactive class itinerary includes a group warm-up, a focused mini-lesson, small group collaborative work, and direct coaching with a live accompanist for select students. The afternoon will conclude with a question and answer session focused on the performance craft and professional industry processes. Every high school participant must prepare a song of their choice in advance and bring a physical copy of the sheet music to the lounge.
Registration for the educational workshop is limited to 15 high school students to maintain a focused environment. The fee for the masterclass is $100 per participant, and the organization offers financial scholarships for those who qualify. Click here for more information.
