The Westport Book Shop is showcasing local artist Dhilan Patel as its guest exhibitor for the month of March in the Drew Friedman Art Place gallery. Patel, a senior at Staples High School, is presenting archival prints of his paintings and drawings.

Patel began painting in first grade and describes art as both a hobby and a learning experience. “Painting has taught me the importance of forward planning and patience,” he said. “It also teaches humility, trust in the process, and openness to possibility.”

In addition to oil painting, Patel has explored calligraphy and sumi-e, a traditional Japanese ink painting style. Some of his works have been published in a national anthology by CelebratingArt.com and have earned awards at the Ridgewood Art Institute’s Young People’s Exhibit.

The Book Shop will host a reception for Patel on Thursday, March 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited, and RSVPs can be made by phone at 203-349-5141 or by email at RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org. The exhibit runs through March 31 during regular store hours.
