Westport Country Playhouse hosts annual golf tournament at Birchwood Country Club

The Westport Country Playhouse will hold its third annual golf tournament on Monday, June 15. This year, the fundraising event includes inaugural mahjong and canasta tournaments. The entire day of activities takes place at Birchwood Country Club, located at 25 Kings Highway South in Westport.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Westport Country Playhouse, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Golf registration begins at 7:30 a.m. players can opt for either a 9-hole or an 18-hole format. The registration package includes a light breakfast, buffet lunch, cocktails, on-course drinks, and an afternoon reception.

Golfers also receive cart rental and full access to the club facilities. This includes the locker room, driving range, and practice putting green. Participants can compete in on-course contests to win pro shop credit and Playhouse season tickets.

Registration for the mahjong and canasta tournaments opens at 9:30 a.m. This option includes the light breakfast, buffet lunch, cocktails, afternoon reception, and a chance to win prizes like season tickets. Players can bring a pre-arranged foursome or register as pairs and solo players to be matched at a table.

The tournament is held on Birchwood’s 83-acre property. Originally designed by Orrin Smith, the nine-hole layout features tightly cut fairways, dense rough, and velvet-bent grass putting surfaces. Players tackling 18 holes use multiple tee sets that offer different angles for varying skill levels.

Sponsors for the 2026 tournament include Bourgeon Capital Management, Charles Schwab Fairfield, Concierge Physicians, Fairfield County Bank, and Fetzer Tire. Additional support comes from Gault Family Companies, Hammer & Nails, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, and The Wein Group at Morgan Stanley. PKF O’Connor Davies, RBC Wealth Management, Red Coat Homes, Sherwood Diner, and Westfair TV Audio are also sponsors. Barbara Streicker serves as the 2026 programming and season sponsor, with media sponsorship from Moffly Media and WSHU Public Radio.
