Westport Country Playhouse will present Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte in “Big Band Broadway,” a concert blending classic Broadway hits with the swinging sound of the Big Band era, from Jan. 29 through Feb. 1.
The five-performance engagement is part of the Playhouse’s “Broadway Scores at the Playhouse” series, an add-on to its 2025–26 mainstage season.
Gravitte, known for her bold, sassy vocal style, will be backed by a six-piece band featuring piano, bass, drums, reeds, trumpet and trombone. The program includes Broadway favorites such as “I Enjoy Being a Girl,” “You Gotta Have a Gimmick,” “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” and “Mister Monotony,” the song she performed in “Jerome Robbins’ Broadway,” which earned her a Tony Award.
“Broadway has always been my first love and a very close second is big band music,” Gravitte said. “I wanted to wed the two together, so voilà — ‘Big Band Broadway.’”
A Redding resident, Gravitte has appeared in numerous Broadway productions, including “They’re Playing Our Song,” “Blues in the Night,” “Perfectly Frank,” “Chicago” and “Les Misérables.” Her career spans Broadway, concert halls, nightclubs and symphony orchestras around the world.
Music director Tedd Firth, a New York City-based pianist, arranger and musical director, leads the band. Firth has worked extensively with Michael Feinstein and has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Opening night on Thursday, Jan. 29, will be followed by a post-show party with the cast and creative team.
Tickets range from $45 to $65. The concert runs approximately 90 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, and is recommended for ages 7 and up.
