The Westport Book Shop is hosting local abstract painter Karen Schlansky as its guest exhibitor for the month of April, featuring selections from her recent “Books” series.
The exhibit, housed in the shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place, showcases Schlansky’s work in acrylic, oil, pastel, and mixed media. A former international art dealer who ran Rose Court Asian Antiques for 20 years, Schlansky now focuses full-time on intuitive, layered abstract painting.
“Although my ‘Books’ series required structure, I kept the palette whimsical, allowing me freedom,” Schlansky said of the collection.
Schlansky is a member of several regional organizations, including the Westport Artists Collective, Connecticut Women Artists Association, and the Ridgefield Artist Guild. She holds a degree from Skidmore College and a Fine Arts Appraisal Certification from New York University.
The public is invited to a reception for the artist on Thursday, April 23, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the book shop, located at 23 Jesup Road. Space for the event is limited, and attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 203-349-5141.
The exhibit will remain on display through April 30. The Westport Book Shop is a nonprofit independent used bookstore that supports community literacy and the arts.
