The Westport Woman’s Club will host a special cabaret fundraiser featuring a performance of the two-person show Cheese Fries and Chili Dips on Friday, June 12. The evening begins at 5:30 PM with hors d’oeuvres and beverages, followed by the performance at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $25.00, and proceeds will support the club’s ongoing community initiatives.
The play is written by and stars Chris Fuller, who is joined onstage by veteran actor Gary Betsworth. Betsworth portrays “IV,” a physical representation of Fuller’s inner voice that interrupts, advises, and comforts him in real time. Directed by Mark S. Graham, the production details Fuller’s pursuit of a dream to play on the PGA Tour while managing bipolar disorder.
The story features encounters with a spiritual guru, a psychiatrist, a unique golf coach, and a Russian ballet teacher. The narrative balances comedic moments with the emotional realities of mental illness and recovery. Robert R. Blume and Pat Labez serve as the producers for this event.
Immediately following the performance, attendees can participate in a talkback discussion focused on mental health, healing, and breaking social stigmas. The panel will feature Dr. Mario Russo-Appel and Dr. Tobias Wasser, two physicians from The Shores Mental Health, Westport, Hartford HealthCare.
