The Museum of Contemporary Art \ Connecticut (MoCA\CT) transformed its galleries into a speakeasy-themed lounge Sunday for a sold-out performance by the Brubeck Brothers Quartet.

The April 12 event featured Chris and Dan Brubeck, guitarist Mike DeMicco, and pianist Chuck Lamb performing against the backdrop of the museum’s current “Art, Jazz + the Blues” exhibition. The evening included a program that spanned from “Dance of the Shadows” to the jazz classic “Take Five.”

Wilton native Chris Brubeck shared personal stories throughout the night, including a humorous memory of the 1994 Grammy Awards when Trio Brubeck’s “Autumn” was nominated for Best Instrumental Composition.

“We were all so excited,” Brubeck shared, “until they said, ‘And the winner is… Kenny G.’”

He also reflected on his brother Dan’s lifelong passion for percussion. ”Even when he was a toddler, I could tell that he really was going to be a drummer,” he said. “As soon as he got his hand on anything that made noise, he was into it!”

To create the speakeasy atmosphere, the museum galleries were outfitted with tables, cocktails, and wait service for VIP guests. The performance is part of MoCA Connecticut’s ongoing season of cross-disciplinary programming.
