Westport Country Playhouse hosts masterclass with Broadway actor Andrew Keenan Bolger

The Westport Country Playhouse will present an interactive theater masterclass titled Building Characters from the Inside Out on Sunday, Sept. 20. The session will be led by Broadway actor Andrew Keenan-Bolger, who originated the role of Crutchie in Disney’s Newsies.

The workshop is divided into two separate age groups hosted at the playhouse. Middle school students in grades six through eight will meet from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while high school students in grades nine through 12 will attend a afternoon session from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The curriculum focuses on monologue work, script analysis, and character creation through practical coaching exercises. Middle school participants will learn fundamental concepts in collaborative exercises, while the high school session offers individualized coaching on text analysis and performance nuances.

Keenan-Bolger’s performance credits include Broadway productions of Tuck Everlasting, Mary Poppins, Seussical, Beauty and the Beast, and A Christmas Carol. His work also extends to television appearances on The Undoing, The Blacklist, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, alongside co-authoring the book series Jack & Louisa and the novel Limelight.

Registration is set at $100 per participant with each session capped at 15 students, and scholarships are available for applicants. Click here to register.
