One of the world’s most renowned jazz ensembles is coming to the banks of the Saugatuck River this June. The Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts announced that the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) with Wynton Marsalis will perform Sunday, June 28.
The concert is a featured stop during Marsalis’ final season as music director of the JLCO. The 15-piece orchestra is known for a versatile repertoire that includes works by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and Thelonious Monk, as well as original compositions by current members.
“Wynton Marsalis’ core beliefs are based on the principles of jazz,” the organization stated, citing his emphasis on individual creativity, collective cooperation, and persistent optimism.
The evening begins with a performance by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra at 6 p.m., followed by the main event at 7 p.m.
The Levitt Pavilion will provide chairs for all attendees. While no outside refreshments are allowed, the venue will host local food trucks and a full bar for patrons.
As a non-profit venue, the pavilion uses proceeds from paid performances like this one to fund its signature “50 Free” concert series held throughout the summer in Westport.
