Television legends Jimmy Smits, Jill Eikenberry, and Michael Tucker are slated to take the stage at the Westport Country Playhouse on Monday, June 8, for a special Script in Hand playreading of Tucker’s original comedy, “A Tailor Near Me.”

The 7 p.m. performance marks a rare local reunion for the three veteran actors, who famously starred together on the NBC legal drama “L.A. Law.”

The plot centers on a routine clothing adjustment that transforms into a deep bond between a character named Sam (Tucker) and his neighborhood tailor, Alfredo (Smits). Eikenberry, a Golden Globe winner and five-time Emmy nominee, will serve as the evening’s stage directions reader.

“Beneath the wit and warmth is an incredibly rich character study of two men finding connection where neither expected it,” Westport Country Playhouse artistic director Mark Shanahan said of the piece. “A perfectly tailored night at the theatre.”

Director James Glossman, who previously directed the world premiere of “A Tailor Near Me,” returns to lead the Westport presentation.

“What a gift, in a moment so awash with division and suspicion, to return to such a beautiful play that challenges us to find, in the most unexpected places, the deepest possible connections with the most unlikely of kin,” Glossman said.

The production is appropriate for audiences ages 13 and up, and runs for 90 minutes without an intermission. Tickets and series subscriptions can be purchased directly through the box office or online at westportplayhouse.org.
